Proving that the market for desktop stationery remains strong is this suite of chunky, colorful utilitarian items the British designer Samuel Wilkinson created for Lexon, and introduced at Maison et Objet earlier this week. The Babylon collection of 6 injection molded plastic items—pen and holder stapler scissors tape dispenser and alarm clock—is distinguished by faceted exterior forms that trace their inspiration to rock formations, of all items. Explained the designer, “We were looking for an distinct surface remedy that could elevate the series and tie all of the objects collectively. Through our research we came across inspiring images of rock strata, such as the The Wave, on the slopes of the Coyote Buttes in Arizona.”
