No one ever accused Jeff Koons of considering little. His outsized sculptures, their matching cost tags (and, some say, his weighty ego) have created him the art planet’s most prominent name (see a lot more on that right here). And this week, Arkansas’ Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, scored large, too, when Hanging Heart (Gold/Magenta), a sculpture acquired straight from the artist final fall, was finally installed on the museum’s premises.
The impossibly shiny, mirror-polished stainless steel heart, 1 in a series of 5 unique heart sculptures designed in between 1994 and 2006, is, according to Koons, “a symbol of warmth, humanity, spirituality, and romance.” It’s also actually big—measuring a colossal 9 feet in height and weighing in at a formidable 3,500 pounds. Which, by any measure, is a lot of enjoy.
