Stephen Burks has produced the most subtle, however sophisticated outside pieces we’;ve seen lately: Ahnda (chairs) and Dala (lanterns and planters). Look closely at the woven structure of the Ahnda chair (above and below). It’;s produced from soft bands of various shades for that elegant je ne sais quoi — or that particular something practically undefinable. It is what Burks calls ‘transparent upholstery’; — the open weave and the high style. His master weavers construct this outstanding chair by hand and the workmanship is strong. With or without having the cushions — it is a luxurious chair totally suited for outside use. But do not limit yourself, it would look great in a lot of indoor settings, as well. There is an innately tropical really feel to a chair like this – it would be great in a grouping around a low glass coffee table. Maybe in a light-filled loft, with lots of ferns and ceiling fans.
