Designed to capture the dramatic outdoors, this contemporary retreat was carefully crafted by Pearson Design Group to accommodate the specific needs of the couple.

For those who stumble upon the many delights of this famous skiing hub, the place can be simply infectious. While the couple initially searched for existing houses, they decided that having one built was a more economical option. The exterior of the home borrows from the rustic charm of the many log cabin homes in the region. Yet the interior seems sleek, cozy and contemporary. The defining factor of the house is its ability to blur the lines between the indoors and the panoramic outdoors while keeping the homeowners warm and comfortable.

Set on a 5-acre lot, the 5,400-square-foot home was built on a budget of $4 million. An inviting and open outdoor room at the entrance is one of the key features of the home that sets it apart. Clad in glass, concrete and wood, the home features beautiful fireplaces that become the focal point in each room. With an interior in neutral hues and the snowy slopes outside, the place is enhanced by smartly placed pops of orange that shine through and add cheer. Plush decor, an unusual coffee table, Moooi Random lights and the Moonlight pendant steal the show in the living and outdoor rooms.

A contemporary kitchen, spacious dining room, relaxing bedroom and modern bathrooms in white complete the home. Allowing its residents to escape the big city rush and to take refuge in the stunning ski slopes of Jackson Hole, this is a vacation home for those who love the open outdoors!

Cozy Mountain Cabin Can Open Up To The Elements

Located in San Vigilio di Marebbe, Italy, the Jagdhaus Tamers is a cozy mountain cabin built entirely of wood. Designed by EM2 Architekten, the cabin has the unique feature of a wall that can be opened up fully, exposing the home to the environment that surrounds it – and the gorgeous mountain viewscapes.. Constructed with minimal windows so that when it is empty it can be buttoned up and protected from curious wildlife, the residence has a few extended and linear windows and a single huge glazing that let the natural light in, but its not until the wall is opened up that the connection with the outdoors is comprehensive.

The Jagdhaus Tamers is surrounded by a forest of tall, majestic trees that is home to a wide array of wildlife and when the property owners commit time in their residence away from property, they have a unique ability to take pleasure in the stunning sounds of nature.

The interior zones of the cabin are clad with wood planks in a clear finish even the furnishings are created from wood. This natural material is a excellent option for the environment the cabin is situated in.

Although the floors, walls, ceiling and furnishings are all the same material, visual interest is layered in with the textures of the location rug, pillows and sofa upholstery as nicely as with the collection of pottery on the table.

A contemporary fireplace wrapped in white heats the cabin. This is the only departure from the wood, (a wood surround would be a fire hazard). Brian Schulz, a Kayak instructor built this perfect Japanese cabin by the woods in Nehalem, Oregon. Utilizing a limited space of only 14′ by 16′, its total footprint consumes just 224 square feet.

Nestled among the trees and covered in green canopies, this Japanese minimalist-inspired cottage has been built from salvaged forest woods and drifts. Imagination and talent turned it into a beautiful lodge. The interior has been fully-insulated using a mix of plaster, cotton, sand, clay. The Whidbey Island Cabin situated on a extended and narrow lot on the western shores of Whidbey Island, Washington. This sustainable cabin designed by CHESMORE|BUCK Architecture. The home is heavily wooded with access from Smugglers Cove Road on the east and continues west to a steep bluff leading to the water’s edge of the Puget Sound. From the bluff, view of the busy boat site visitors leads to beautiful views of the Olympic Mountains.

“The client expressed an interest in building a extremely basic 2,000 sf home with the space divided into warm living quarters and a guest suite. Wood was the desired material since of its warmth and context to the heavily wooded island. The client also had an interest in the use of wood as a sustainable developing material.

The main structure consisted of double architectural grade glu-lam beams at 12ft on center flaring up from an 88ft long steel beam running down the center of the strategy. This “butterfly” roof structure is quite dramatic in the use of the exposed wood beams. The exterior siding material is horizontal clear cedar ship lap siding accentuating the horizontal nature of the property and to highlight the rich warm tones of clear secar. The ceiling material is 1×4 tongue and groove clear cedar that extends to the exterior and becomes the soffit material.

The structure has only two substantial walls inside: the ground face CMU block wall that separates the principal hall from the Guest Suite, and the wall that encloses the Master Suite. All spaces face the windows and have views of the water traffic and Olympic Mountains. With the open plan and the expanse of windows there is virtually no border in between inside and out. Wood was also the preferred material for the interior of the house. Rift oak hardwood flooring, strong core vertical grain fir doors, bookend matched vertical grain fir cabinets, clear cedar wood ceiling and the exposed architectural grade fir glu-lam beams all reinforced the wealthy and warm material of wood.”
