Happy birthday, Hans Wegner. The fantastic Danish designer would have been 25 these days, and to celebrate his centenary, Carl Hansen & Son, the manufacturer of Wegner’s iconic furnishings, will roll out a restricted edition Wegner seating collection in Milan subsequent week, all smartly outfitted by British style designer Paul Smith.Smith, who’s having one thing of a banner year—his existing retrospective at London’s Style Museum continues to be a crowd preferred—is best recognized for his preoccupation with brightly colored stripes, and dutifully accords Wegner “an injection of vibrancy” with two signature fabrics produced in collaboration with textile house Maharam.
Stripes, a pattern comprised of slender vertical bands of varying colors, and Massive Stripes, a markedly broader, scaled-up motif, are applied to upholstery for Wegner seating, which includes the unmistakable Wishbone, Shell and Wing chairs. Effectively, if anybody has earned his stripes, we’d say it’s Hans Wegner.
