Milan 2014 Preview: Paul Smith Dresses Up Hans Wegner

Happy birthday, Hans Wegner. The fantastic Danish designer would have been 25 these days, and to celebrate his centenary, Carl Hansen & Son, the manufacturer of Wegner’s iconic furnishings, will roll out a restricted edition Wegner seating collection in Milan subsequent week, all smartly outfitted by British style designer Paul Smith.

Smith, who’s having one thing of a banner year—his existing retrospective at London’s Style Museum continues to be a crowd preferred—is best recognized for his preoccupation with brightly colored stripes, and dutifully accords Wegner “an injection of vibrancy” with two signature fabrics produced in collaboration with textile house Maharam.

Stripes, a pattern comprised of slender vertical bands of varying colors, and Massive Stripes, a markedly broader, scaled-up motif, are applied to upholstery for Wegner seating, which includes the unmistakable Wishbone, Shell and Wing chairs. Effectively, if anybody has earned his stripes, we’d say it’s Hans Wegner.

Milan 2014 Preview: New Colors For Kartell Sparkle Collection

Japanese designer Tokujin Yoshioka’s fascination with glass and crystal has been expressed in each stand-alone sculptural installations and strong glass furnishings. Light+Creating 2014 Preview: ‘Stereovision’ By LZF (ES)

Spanish lighting brand LZF is taking their ‘High Fidelity’ collection, launched last year, one step further this year with ‘Stereovision’, adding new colours and updating graphics inspired by the esthetics of the planet of music of the 1950′s.

Stereovision revisits models in the ‘High Fidelity’ series (Domo, Escape, Air, Chou and Spiro) and also consists of new lamp groupings beneath a single canopy (Candelabro, Link wall, Cuad and Saturnia) that offer several designing possibilities for architects and interior designers. They all come with pre-installed electrical wiring prepared to “plug and play”, a concept LZF is focussing on.

Other novelties to be shown contain a new version of their Domo light and the presentation of the brand-new Asterisco, a lamp with a lectern intended for multiple purposes. Along with the collection LZF has edited a double CD with original tunes composed by Los Angeles based musicman Rithma for the High Fidelity and Stereovision communication campaigns.
