My Old Kentucky Home(s & Gardens)...

Our designs are appearing in publications around the country now, the most recent of which being our design of the Pinehurst's master bathroom featured in Kentucky Homes & Gardens Magazine's "Showered in Luxury" piece.  According to the article, "an inspired shower design can help to rejuvenate both mind and body, providing a place for daily renewal and creating a spa-like experience in the home."  Well said!

But which type of stairs lead to success? In today's architectural tutorial, we will be outlining the various types with pictorial examples from Visbeen Associates' home designs so you can judge for yourself!

1. Straight Run Stairs: have no turns, as the name implies. (http://www.build-home-building-house.com/stair_types.html)

2. L Stairs: has one landing at some point along the flight of steps.

3. U Stairs: may be constructed either as wide U or narrow U stairs. Both have two flights of steps parallel to each other with a landing between. (http://www.build-home-building-house.com/stair_types.html)

The Blaine's U stair with a built-in booth on the landing - a detail like this really sets a common type of stair apart

4. Spiral Stairs: wind around a central pole. They typically do not have an inner handrail, just the central pole. (http://www.allwords.com/word-spiral+staircase.html)

The Leland's spiral stair with open tread - what a great way to get up to the tower level!

5. Circular Stairs: do not have a central pole and there is a handrail on both sides. These have the advantage of a more uniform tread width when compared to the spiral staircase.

Parade of Homes

The Parade of Homes is in full swing in Grand Rapids & we have a beautiful home to show. Exceptionally built by Falcon Custom Homes, this Manchester Hills home is a must-see.

Traditional Tudor touches and striking stone details elevate this estate above the ordinary. A convenient L-shaped floor plan starts with the four-car garage and leads into the home’s public areas, including a charming kitchen with a built-in booth, a four-season porch and a large living area with built-ins. The right side of the house contains the spacious master suite. Upstairs are three additional bedrooms and a loft, while the downstairs is home to a family room, bar, guest bedroom and sport court/exercise area.

Our Manchester Hills Collection

In Grand Rapids, MI there is an old world neighborhood called "Manchester Hills." We have designed 6 homes as well as the north & south entry statements and playground for the neighborhood's children. Our latest addition is Pinehurst. Below you'll see a rendering, but the photos will be taken and posted soon. Be sure to tour Pinehurst when it's in the Spring Parade of Homes.
