Situated in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the Querosen Home was designed by Grupo SP to take advantage of the of a low-lying website, 3 metres below street level. The home is concrete with Portuguese Stone floors and the North wall is a 3-storey shelving program that holds a staggering 7500 books accessed by metal platforms. The social zone requires benefit of the privacy on the lowest level offered by getting beneath street level, even though still maintaining views of the landscape beyond by means of the wall of glazings at the back of the residence.

With each sides of the residence strong concrete walls, the library creates a camouflage to the mostly windowless wall while on the other side, the concrete wall is separated from the house by several feet, allowing for air and light to pass by way of. Although the library zone is a 3-storey volume, the other side of the property – where the kitchen and bedrooms are positioned – are every single single volumes.

Access to the home is from the library side and a glass door opens to the living area.

From the street, Querosen Residence is fenced off with two trees in the front yard. The residence seems easy in structure, following the standard 10×40 metre format and keeps its secret of contemporary, wide open spaces and landscape views.

Its tough to believe that in the hustle and bustle of its location, the Querosen House could have such a private and calm backyard and such a voluminous social zone.

The metal platforms that connect the library to every single of the 3 floors on the other half of the residence bring an attractive industrial aesthetic to the zone that balances the historic aspect of the books themselves. Layered into this ying / yang decor are the semi translucent glass walls of the 3 levels and the rough concrete of the architecture. The lustre of the glass, the shine of the metal cat walks, the rough texture of the unfinished concrete and the rows upon rows of books on wood shelves all come with each other to develop a dynamic warehouse atmosphere to what is in fact a single family stand alone property.

The living location on the lowest level appears nearly oblivious to the catwalks and books above.

The dining region is behind the 3-storey volume and with a regular ceiling height the space has a more intimate really feel. Just beside the dining location is the concrete stairs that lead up to the private zones.

The stairs are located in the void in between the concrete wall and the property itself. This void enables light and airflow to penetrate the house from the front and back even though maintaining the wall itself completely closed for privacy.

Even the view to the street is private thanks to the privacy fence and the two trees in the yard.

DIY Idea: Upcycled Books For Your Interior

Today, it saddens me to say that bound books are a dying breed. Everybody has tablets. Challenging copies and books in-print are being purchased much less and less. For most of us, there is anything magical about holding a book in our hands: the beautiful exterior, the weight of the paper, and the printed text. Because books are becoming less typical, the ones we do buy are for the design and style as significantly as reading pleasure. You do not just get it to read it or you would have accomplished so on your tablet, so it has to look great on your bookshelf or on the coffee table too. Old books also are quickly becoming a nostalgic staple in home décor. As the book becomes less and less common, it will grow to be more and more intriguing as a design function for your house. That’s why these days’s post is committed to upcycling books!

Book Web page Paper Wreath

Nothing says “welcome” like a wreath on your door. A wreath immediately warms up your exterior and is an easy DIY. If you make your wreath out of book pages, it promises to be in style all year long. If you do not have an old book you want to repurpose, check out a thrift shop and they will have a lot.

This beautiful wreath by Sunny Tuesday can look excellent any time of year! Basically alter out the bow for a new season. All you need to have for this wreath is scissors, a hot glue gun, a book, and a wreath kind. [DIY from Sunny Tuesday]

The wreath is created of these little “pom poms.” You will be amazed by how straightforward they are to make!

In this subsequent 1, the book pages are folded and hole punched, then strung up on a wire frame. If your books pages are not naturally aged, you can get the look using tea to stain your pages, or even a matchstick if you’re brave.  [DIY from Knick of Time Interiors]

Book Planter

This DIY is so cute and would appear excellent on your finish table, bookshelf, or coffee table. The book planter is excellent for succulents and cacti (plants that do not require much soil). This planter is also a wedding decor favourite. [DIY from Hastudia]

To stay away from cutting through the tough cover, you can leave your book open and plant it that way. [from Hammocks and Trampolines]

Book Art

You can very easily turn a book into a piece of art for your residence with just an exacto knife, glue, and sewing pins. These gorgeous books serve as frames, and the pages are transformed into art. To make one, merely use your exacto knife to cut a rectangle out of each and every page of your book. (Make a template so that you can be sure every single page is cut precisely the exact same.) Then, glue the pages with each other with a glue stick. Use your scrap pages to cut out a silhouette like the butterflies beneath.  Use pins to show them in your book. Ultimately, you’ve got yourself a stunning artwork! [from Hokey Stokes]
